Exporting maps and running the Player View in Hexal
Hexal is built to sit at the table, not just in prep. Two features matter most on game night: the Player View and map export.
The Player View
Open the Player View and Hexal launches a second window showing a fog-of-war-filtered version of your map: only discovered hexes appear, and DM-only content is stripped out. It’s safe to put on a second monitor or projector for your players while you keep the full map in front of you.
Hexal can also stream the player view to a browser over your local network, so remote players can follow along in a tab. Information only flows one way - from you to the players - so nothing DM-only leaks.
As your party explores, hexes move from undiscovered to discovered to cleared, and the Player View updates to match what they’ve actually seen.
Exporting maps and data
- Map export produces PNG, JPEG, or PDF, with print-ready and player-handout presets - handy for a physical map or a handout.
- Campaign data export writes JSON or Markdown if you want your notes outside the app or under version control.
Time, weather, and session notes
Hexal also tracks an in-game calendar with seasonal weather and travel modifiers (Cmd+T for time, Cmd+W for weather), and a timeline-based session log (Cmd+L) for recording what happened, tagged and timestamped in game.
