Getting started with QuikGIF

QuikGIF is a fast, no-nonsense screen recorder for macOS that produces GIFs. It launches instantly, stays out of your way, and gives you a usable file with sensible defaults - no wizard, no subscription.

Install

You can get QuikGIF two ways:

• Mac App Store - a menu-bar app with a built-in viewer and proper system permission handling. Download on the App Store.
• Command line - a one-line install that puts the quikgif binary on your PATH:

curl -fsSL https://quikgif.com/install.sh | sh

(An older Homebrew tap was retired - use the App Store or the install script above. The installer will clean up a stale Homebrew copy for you if it finds one.)

QuikGIF is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The free tier records up to 30 seconds to GIF and is fully usable; Pro unlocks longer recordings, extra formats (WebP, APNG, MP4), 60 FPS, and polish like cursor smoothing and click indicators.

Your first recording

1. Launch QuikGIF from the menu bar (or use the CLI).
2. Pick a window or a screen region to capture.
3. Record, then stop. QuikGIF writes a ready-to-share GIF to disk and copies it to your clipboard.

The first time you record, macOS asks for Screen Recording permission. Grant it in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, then run again.
