The namecheap-mcp plugin: manage domains and DNS

namecheap-mcp bundles a Namecheap MCP server into Claude Code so you can manage domains, DNS records, SSL, and transfers straight from a session - useful when you’re wiring up a new site or updating records and don’t want to log into the dashboard.

Install

claude plugin install namecheap-mcp@robworks-claude-code-plugins

First-run setup

Run the guided setup to add your API credentials:

/namecheap-mcp:setup

It collects your Namecheap API key and writes it to the plugin’s config.

What you can do

List and inspect domains, read and edit DNS host records, check and manage SSL, and handle domain transfers and account details.

Good to know

  • Namecheap’s API requires API access enabled on your account and your current public IP whitelisted in their API settings. If calls fail with an auth or permission error, check that first.
  • Namecheap is only the registrar for some domains whose DNS is hosted elsewhere (for example on Cloudflare) - in that case, DNS record edits belong on the DNS host, not here. Use this plugin for whatever Namecheap is authoritative for.
  • Edits to live DNS take effect quickly but can be cached; allow for propagation.
