The colab plugin: drive Google Colab from Claude Code

colab drives Google Colab from Claude Code over a bundled MCP server - open Drive notebooks, run code in the kernel, manage multiple sessions, move files to and from the VM, mount Drive, read Colab secrets, inspect variables, and edit notebook cells. It also includes fine-tune round-trip and local MLX conversion helpers.

Install

claude plugin install colab@robworks-claude-code-plugins

First-run setup

/colab:setup

Setup connects the plugin to Colab and Drive. /colab:help gives an overview of what’s available once you’re connected.

What you can do

Open a Drive notebook, run and edit cells, execute code in the live kernel, manage several Colab sessions at once, upload and download VM files, mount Google Drive, read Colab secrets, and inspect kernel variables. The fine-tuning helpers support an Unsloth to merged to Hugging Face to local MLX conversion round-trip.

Good to know

  • Requires a Google account with Colab access; the setup step handles auth.
  • Don’t close the last active Colab session from outside the plugin - losing the only session can leave it unable to reconnect until you restart.
  • An optional headless (Playwright) backend exists for automation.
