The claude-quikgif plugin: record GIFs from Claude Code

claude-quikgif connects QuikGIF - a fast macOS screen recorder - to Claude Code over a bundled MCP server, so you can record, process, and render GIFs without leaving a session. It also surfaces QuikGIF CLI updates on session start.

Install

claude plugin install claude-quikgif@robworks-claude-code-plugins

First-run setup

The plugin drives the QuikGIF CLI, so you need that installed. It ships lifecycle skills to handle it:

  • install - install the QuikGIF CLI for the first time, or repair a broken install.
  • install-mcp - register the QuikGIF MCP shim with Claude Code.
  • status - show the installed version, license tier, and MCP registration state.
  • update - update the CLI to the latest version.

Run install first if quikgif isn’t already on your PATH.

What you can do

Ask Claude to record a screen or window region, capture a demo, write a .qgif script, or process and render a GIF. The quikgif-mcp skill activates when you describe any of those, exposing the QuikGIF MCP tools.

Good to know

  • macOS only - QuikGIF is a native Mac app and CLI.
  • Screen recording needs macOS screen-recording permission; grant it to QuikGIF the first time.
  • If the MCP isn’t found, run the install-mcp step and restart Claude Code.
